TIDAL Isn’t Actually Going to Let Unsigned Artists Upload Their Music Directly…

TIDAL’s Chief Information Officer Vania Schlogel recently revealed information about the TIDAL Discovery program.  Schlogel said:

“When it comes to the distribution of music, I want to get a point where there are no blockades for artists in order to be able to easily do that for themselves…”

Now TIDAL has officially launched the Discovery program, and they want to clarify a few things…

Unsigned artists can’t actually upload their music directly to TIDAL. They have to sign a contract and distribute music through Phonofile or Record Union.

I’ve asked TIDAL for information on the terms of the contract, and will update when they respond. A number of third party distributors already distribute to TIDAL, so I’m not sure if there’s any real benefit to joining the Discovery program. Yeah, you’ll get featured on a TIDAL Discover page, but will people really be going to that page to find new music?
