Streaming Revenue Is Catching Up to Digital Download Revenue…

According to new data from the RIAA, streaming revenue is catching up to digital download revenue in the US. In 2014 streaming revenue was at $1.9 billion and digital download revenue was at $2.6 million.

Streaming revenue has been steadily rising since 2010. Digital downloads hit their peak in 2012, and have been declining ever since.

Here’s how streaming factored into total US music industry revenue in 2014. Digital downloads are barely leading, with physical and streaming revenue close to one third each. Synchronization and ringtones barely make an appearance.
