YouTube Removes Madonna’s TIDAL Exclusive. New One Gets Uploaded 5 Seconds Later…

Yesterday, TIDAL presented an ‘exclusive’ from Madonna, a behind-the-scenes look at her upcoming video, “Ghost Town”.  A grainy version of that video instantly appeared on YouTube.

That version was ripped down after 24 hours of our report, probably by a takedown notice from Madonna’s label or the artist herself.

It was instantly replaced by this…

Now You Can Start Collecting Fans’ Email Addresses for as Little as $5

2015-04-09_10-57-58-20150409054713

Digital music marketing platform Show.co has added the ability to collect email addresses in exchange for a track download. This is feature seems so basic that I’m surprised they didn’t offer it before.

Why does this even matter? Well, Show.co believes that their tool is better.

In addition to sending an email with the track download, Show.co will include a custom call to action.

For example, you could tell fans to check out your website or follow you on Twitter.<!–/*

For $5 you can collect up to 100 email addresses. Each email address costs $0.05 to collect. So what happens if you collect more addresses than you paid for? Show.co will continue to run your email campaign for seven days, and you can pay to access the extra emails you collected later.

Polydor France, ADA, Believe Digital, and RED Associated Labels are already using the feature.

A couple months ago Show.co added the ability to gate content in exchange for a Spotify follow. The platform is run by the people behind Soundrop, a now-closed social music service.

Three A2IM Board of Director seats are opening up this year. As usual, an election will be held to find replacements.

The expiring seats belong to Cathy Bauer of Secretly Label Group/SC Distribution, Louis Posen of Hopeless, and Christopher Scully of Glassnote.

Senior management executives from A2IM label member companies are invited to run for a seat, as long as the company is in good standing.  You can also nominate other members.

So what does a board member do?<!–/*

A term lasts for three years, and members have to wait one year before running for a seat again.

Each label member company will submit one vote in an upcoming secret online election.

The deadline to nominate is Friday, April 17th at 9PM EDT. Email A2IM VP Molly Neuman to submit your nomination.  Include a short description of the nominee, the label the nominee represents, and the issues the nominee will champion.

If You Don’t Agree to YouTube’s New Ad-Free Terms, Your Videos Will Disappear…

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 8.50.21 AM

YouTube’s ad-free subscription service is finally arriving.  YouTube Music Key already exists for ad-free music, but the new service will remove ads from all videos.

It’s about time. I’ve had multiple people tell me over the years that they wish they could pay to remove YouTube ads.

Exact details on the new service aren’t available yet, but information is starting to surface.

So what does this mean for content creators?<!–/*

All revenue will be put together and then it will be split between creators based on time watched per channel. Expect even more mysterious payouts, as there won’t be a set rate.

Sources also say creators must accept YouTube’s new terms, or their videos will be made ‘private’.

Remember what happened last time YouTube did this?

Here’s a letter YouTube just sent to creators about the upcoming changes:
