Back in October I wrote about iamamiwhoami, a Swedish pop act that released their third album in multiple formats — one of them being a website. This worked well. iamamiwhoami’s music and videos always go up on YouTube first, and are created as a digital narrative.

What happens when a website is not just one of your album formats, what if a website shaped and documented the entire album creation process?

// ]]>J. Viewz is running a website with digital creative agency Hello Monday. The site is called The DNA Project, it’s documenting the DNA of the new J. Viewz album as each step in the process happens.

In the above screenshot you can see that J. Viewz is currently on song five of the album. Each dot on the timeline represents a different event, documented by a video, an audio clip, a photo, etc. Fans can also leave comments on the timeline. Fans that pre-order the album can download audio files and other content from the website.

The first event on the timeline for song five is a collaboration with Gotye on a drum track. The collaboration was documented by this video:
